Los Cristianos is one of the most popular and liveliest resorts in Tenerife. It was formerly a sleepy fishing village: you can still see signs of this on the seafront as a few of the tiny fishing cottages still survive. The resort is situated on the South West coast of Tenerife, which is one of the largest islands in the Canaries. There is a long promenade which runs along past Los Cristianos beach. This pedestrian area is very lively, especially in the evenings. You can get your hair braided, or watch sand sculptures coming to life or have a painter create you in caricature. It is really a great atmosphere. There are also plenty of restaurants, bars and shops to explore. The beach is well equipped with sun loungers and parasols, as well as bathroom facilities. To the North East of Los Cristianos is the Monkey Park, where you can see lots of monkeys and other primates, as well as iguanas and parrots. Near the port, you can book many excursions including whale and dolphin watching. And if you carry on walking along the promenade from the Los Cristianos beach, past the port, you will come to another much larger beach, Playa de las Vistas. Both beaches have white sand rather than the native black sand of the island, which was imported especially from the Sahara dessert. That is actually why one local complex is called Azahara. There are plenty of water sports available as well. These include scuba diving, snorkelling, hiring kayaks, pedalos and jet skis.
The nightlife in Los Cristianos is quieter than in the neighbouring Playa de las Americas, but there are plenty of karaoke bars or bars offering live music.
